1/10: AKD Planning Committee

Today was a full day of work for the Planning Committee.

We walked a couple of blocks from the hotel to the offices of the American Sociological Association where they graciously allow us to use their conference room for free.

Sadly, Franklin Square is home to many homeless people. It was pretty cold to be sleeping outside.

Here we are at ASA.

This is the office of the Executive Director, Nancy Kidd. Notice she has a standing desk and a treadmill. I love the fact that it is positioned so that she is not distracted by looking out the window and that if she stops walking, she will plunge 6 stories to the street.

It's a long way down.

We went to dinner at a place called Farmers and Distillers where their specialty was (besides spirits) donuts. This is a grilled cauliflower steak on a smear of some kind of tomato sauce, quinoa over a coconut cream base. and wilted greens.

Here's the gang. Going clockwise: Michele Kozimore (Elizabethtown College), Daphne Pedersen (North Dakota), Bethany Titus (AKD Executive Director), Frankie Frank (Wisconsin), Melinda Messineo (Ball State), Dennis McSeveney U New Orleans), Bruce Day (Central Connecticut).

At the end of the day, I took the metro to the end of the silver line (Wiehl-Reston) and a cab to a hotel near Dulles so I could get to the airport the next day for an early morning flight.

Unlike the Henley Park, there are no pictures from an airport Comfort Inn worth putting in a blog.
